Associate Degree in Nursing

Course Objective

To prepare Nurse Student with the appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes to provide health services in line with the identified strategies of the Health Care System of the ministry of Health.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates from this program will:

  • Work competently, especially at the front line of health services
  • Show a positive attitude and respect for the people regardless of economic status, customs and beliefs
  • Apply the nursing process with quality of care to patients, families and the community by using evidence based approach
  • Consult with other health professionals when nursing and midwifery practice/ care requires additional expertise
  • Use the primary health care approach to meet basic health needs in the community and promote safe motherhood and responsible parenthood
  • Apply team work approach.

Course Requirements

  • The students can leave with school permission for 15% of semester hours or 10% on leave without school permission, but they are not allowed to leave the whole single credit hours (theory and practice hours)
  • The students can leave only 15% of semester hours with or without school permission
  • They have to attend at least 85% or 90% and fulfill at least 70% of semester clinical requirements before allowing sitting the exam of related semester. The remain 30% of clinical requirements will be completed during their internship or upon arrangement of the school
  • If attendance is within 50-84% of semester hours or 50-89% or fulfilling of clinical requirement is within 50-69%, they are allowed only to sit the 2nd session exam at the end of the scholar year
  • If attendance is less than 50% of semester hours or fulfilling of clinical requirement is less than 50%, they have to repeat class.

Admission Requirements

In principle, applicant shall fulfill the following criteria:

  • Males/ females aged 18-23 years (Apply for Public training institution that provide scholarship to students and if graduates from private training institution are willing to apply for MoH Emplyment)
  • Have High School Diploma
  • Be passed successfully the National Entry Exam
  • Be in a good health

Note:

      Number of intakes to the ADN Program is limited based on MoH health workforce projection and capacity of production of each training institution

Validity and transfer of Credits

  1. Validity and transfer of Credits
  2. Student could fulfill their ADN credits in 5-year period
  3. Student must fulfill credits of First year requirement before transferring to another school based on agreement set by both sides.

Course assessment

The Three-year ADN Course shall be assessed on a basis of continuous assessment. Students will be informed on assessment schedule, assessment process and conditions for successful completion credits of each semester at the commencement of the course. Students will not be graduated unless they pass receive Certificate of Graduation issued by Training Institution. School graduates are required to pass the National Exit Exam in order to receive their Diploma of Associate Degree in Nursing

a – Theory Assessment

The Theory Assessment is the continuous assessment to be conducted during the course and occurred at the end of each semester:

  • Theory exam is credit-based assessment
  • The ADN Course has 6 semesters which consist of 6 months per semester
  • Theory assessment will be done at the end of every semester
  • The students who failed any credit of the two semesters of each year are allowed to …… sit the 2nd session exam after one month of the 2nd semester exam result
  • If still failed of the 2nd session exam of each year, they have to repeat the same class.

b – Clinical Performance Assessment

The clinical performance assessment will be conducted from the 2nd semester of the first year based on clinical requirements of each semester stipulated in the curriculum:

  • Students shall have their Clinical Logbook for preceptor to monitoring, evaluating, and recording their skill performance progress
  • Clinical instructors and Preceptors will use clinical checklists to evaluate the competency of students
  • Assessment during the internship is aimed to allow the students to complete remaining clinical requirement in which they could not fulfill in the previous semester.
  • Summative assessment or graduation exam
  • It is the exam of theory and clinical performance at the end of the course
  • Students have to complete clinical requirements and pass all theory credits before allowing sitting the first graduation exam. If requirements could not be completed, they have to sit the second graduation exam
  • Students who do not pass the first graduation exam will be allowed to re-sit the second exam two months after the first exam (theory and/or clinical performance they failed)
  • The graduation exam will be conducted by the training institution under the supervision of relevant authorities.
